2009-09-20 WGP Staff Undertake Marine Mammal Medic Course
Whilst taking pride in achieving and maintaining Environmental Management standards to meet ISO14000 requirements, WGP constantly looks to further its commitment to remaining an environmentally conscientious organisation. Having played an active part in the recent Cornish seal survey, WGP was asked if the company would like to become part of the support network on standby to help save stranded and injured marine animal life. Working in the marine environment and with its offices on the North Cornish coast it made good sense to increase the relevant skill set of members of staff to enable greater assistance to be provided when required. Hence three WGP staff spent a sunny Sunday becoming Marine Mammal Medics with the BDMLR.

British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR) is a registered charity dedicated to the rescue of marine wildlife and is operated entirely by volunteers. On call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year their ranks consist of trained divers, boat handlers and marine mammal medics. The training course was designed to give the trainee medics an in-depth knowledge of the rescue procedures that should be brought into play when attempting to rescue a cetacean (marine mammal) or seal.

2009-10-06 WGP Team Challange
Like any company wishing to maintain its prime position within a business sector WGP constantly reviews and monitors all areas of its operations to ensure that the highest levels of efficiency exist within a healthy working environment. Key to WGP's ability to provide responsive solutions for its client's needs is our policy of promoting and providing opportunity for all our staff to maintain a higher level of activity and physical fitness.

Such an example took place at the beginning of September 2009 on Dartmoor. Amidst clement and often sunny weather WGP took to the moor with compass, map and GPS for a day's adventure and healthy competition. Two teams, under the leadership of CEO Mark Burnett and Operations Manager Marcus Smith, set off on a planned route, in opposite directions, hunting for hidden caches along the way with a mixture of coordinates and clues to aid them.

18-11-2009 WGP exhibit at SEG Houston 2009
Despite what has undoubtedly been a quieter year for seismic exploration activity industry-wide, the impressive attendance of 9,300 industry professionals and 360 exhibitors from around the world at the 79th SEG Annual Meeting and International Exposition in Houston, Texas, perhaps indicates that the state of the market is not as bleak as some suggest. In comparison to attendance at the 2007 and 2008 SEG shows, 2009 was up by almost 1,000. With new technologies, services and techniques in the field of marine seismic exploration becoming available to enable faster, safer and increased exploration and hydrocarbon retrieval, SEG 2009 was clearly considered an invaluable showcase.

Being a 15 year old company WGP has exhibited at SEG annual shows many times and was proud to send a team over from the UK to continue the important business of answering inquiries from national and independent oil companies as to our proven turn-key solutions. It was also an ideal opportunity to hold face to face meetings with existing and potential clients and suppliers as well as to make new friends and renew old dialogues. WGP exhibited next to the likes of PGS, WesternGeco, Fugro, CCGVeritas, ION, Polarcus and OYO Geospace and our eye-catching stand was rarely without interested visitors. The wealth of seismic information present within the exhibition halls meant that we all had the opportunity to increase our own portfolio of knowledge as well as inform others about our own industry leading services. SEG 2010 is to be held in Denver and the annual EAGE show in Barcelona. Perhaps we will see you there?
