Running the London Marathon has been a once-in-a-lifetime ambition of Claire’s and this year she has finally received a place fundraising for her chosen charity Tommy’s.

The Directors of WGP Exploration Ltd are delighted to announce today that the company has entered into a definitive acquisition agreement with Thalassa Holdings Ltd. The combination unites the exceptional relationship the WGP Group has developed with Thalassa since 2007 and signifies both companies now officially working as one.
Together, we are now uniquely positioned to provide the global upstream oil and gas industry with the most comprehensive set of solutions in 4D seismic for Permanent Reservoir Monitoring (“PRM”) and other niche frontier seismic projects.
The decision for the company to be acquired by Thalassa was arrived at after careful consideration. By consolidating our services and products WGP now has full access to two Portable Modular Source Systems (PMSS™). Both systems are currently operated by WGP; one is currently utilised for the on-going Life of Field Seismic (LoFS) survey for BP over the Valhall Field located in the North Sea. The second system recently completed a survey for ION Geophysical Corporation as part of a High Arctic exploration programme. The transaction further provides the possibility to build and utilise additional PMSS™ units and components to meet the growing demand in the current market.
Under this corporate acquisition WGP will become part of a public traded company and can now look forward to and concentrate on a period of sustainable growth with the ability to raise finance through the Alternative Investment Market (AIM), the London Stock Exchange’s international market. WGP will continue to operate under the same name with their headquarters remaining in North Cornwall, UK.

With LoFS 14 now completed on schedule and without incident this closes another successful year of operating the portable source system for BP Norge AS, operator of the Valhall Field.
LoFS 14 was WGP’s third operational survey of the Valhall field utilising the source sub-arrays of Thalassa Energy Services’ Portable Modular Source System (PMSSTM). The PMSSTM was mobilised onto M/V Stril Myster, a field platform supply vessel that is converted into a seismic source vessel for the duration of the project.
The Valhall complex, located in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea, consists of six separate steel platforms and additional two unmanned flank platforms with a total of 45 production wells and has an estimated production life until 2050. In 2003, Ocean Bottom Cable was trenched into the seabed to create a 45km2 survey area. The LoFS operations provide high quality data mapping over time, which are designed to enhance the recovery rates at this highly active field by improving the placement of production wells as well as supporting the water injection program. WGP excels in creating seismic solutions to the upstream oil and gas industry and has contributed to BP’s Valhall LoFS program by generating efficient solutions for Permanent Reservoir Monitoring.
Marcus Smith, WGP’s Operations Manager commented, “Once again the survey had its challenges with various Simultaneous Operations taking place in the survey area, some different to those previously encountered. With excellent communications from our personnel onboard the Stril Myster with the Valhall installation and other vessels in the area we have maximised our data coverage over the field and encountered minimum standby time while doing so”.

For the second year running WGP is attending Africa Oil Week, a conference and exhibition for suppliers and service providers to the upstream oil and gas industry.
This premier industry event, the 18th Annual Africa Oil Week will focus on Africa’s vast portfolio and provide key insights on Africa’s upstream – exploration and development future, trends and challenges, onshore and offshore. Building on Africa’s frontier potential, new opportunities exist in this dynamic region – oil and gas-LNG projects, upstream ventures, finance investments, energy resources, hydrocarbon potential and shale gas developments, coming to the fore.
WGP’s most recent venture with Surestream Petroleum, on Lake Tanganyika in Burundi, involves the conversion of the Tanganyika Explorer, into a 2D Seismic vessel for data acquisition projects for Surestream which has been awarded licenses for Blocks B and D on the lake. WGP hopes to participate in other opportunities in Africa and this conference provides a valuable opportunity to interact and exchange ideas.
Mark Burnett, CEO of WGP stated that “Over the last 18 months, we have seen a rejuvenation in interest in the lake systems associated with the Great Rift Valley in East Africa. Each lake will have its own specific physical conditions (water depth, level of infrastructure, constitution of the shoreline, etc.) coupled with often fickle and complex geo-political situations. As a consequence, and the Surestream project is a case in point, each lake acquisition project necessitates individual review and bespoke solutions developed to ensure the both the clients’ requirements are fulfilled without compromising protection of the sensitive natural environments upon which indigenous populations are so reliant”.

WGP employee Marilyn Botham was called out to rescue a seal stranded on the coastline near WGP’s main premises in Cornwall.
As part of WGP’s commitment to maintaining the local marine environment, nominated members of the team are trained as voluntary Marine Mammal Medics. When a stranded or distressed marine mammal is spotted by a member of the public a volunteer close to its location is contacted by the British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR) to attend the scene.
“We had a call in from the BDMLR to assist in the rescue of a stranded 6 week old pup seal near Northcott Mouth. He was a very feisty pup with a poorly weeping eye and a few nips from seal bulls, he was in distress and needed urgent care. After a period of calming him down we were able to handle him into a seal carry bag to move him to the car park, he was then put in a carry cage for his journey to Gweek Sanctuary.
A big thank you to some onlookers who provided us with watering cans full of water so we were able to hydrate the seal for his journey. I have since found out he has been named Buffy the Vampire Slayer! I will keep in touch with the Sanctuary for an update of his condition”. Marilyn Botham, WGP Accounts Manager
Seal season in the UK is from October to early January so WGP have their equipment and personnel ready for any future call outs.
